MONEY SAVER: Finding Money Stealers

One of the greatest MONEY SAVERs I know is to stop money leaks.  What is a money leak?  A money leak defines all the moments when you tossed your change into a donation jar, or dropped your pennies on the street, or said "keep the change".  It is the slow unaccounted  departure of money from our wallets.  The examples I've mentioned above are somewhat obvious.  If you are living every day right down to the last cent in your wallet (or account if you pay by debit) then you need to curtail the above activities.  But there are also other money leaks that go unnoticed, often for years, that occur in your home.

My boxed salt = money leak
One money leak that I recently identified was salt.  Plain Jane cheapo salt.  Every time I bake or cook, and need salt, the dispenser (a cardboard box) ALWAYS gives me too much.  I've compensated by pouring the salt into my measuring spoon while holding it over a bowl or the sink.  I then dispose of the excess salt.  Finally it dawned on me that all that extra salt I throw away is a money leak!  And a BIG money leak.  I throw out about half the box of salt as excess!  Those small amounts add up every time I cook or bake with salt; which is often!  My solution is to simply transfer all my salt to a different container.  One I can dip my measuring spoon into.  Thus eliminating the excess caused by pouring.

Small simple steps but pure MONEY SAVER!
