Friday Quick Tip: Broccoli Elastics

A sample of our elastic collection
If you buy broccoli, or other produce, that comes with a thick elastic DON'T THROW THEM OUT!  They have many fantastic uses!  They can hold bunches of pens/pencils.  They can hold troublesome lids shut.  They make great slingshots.  BUT my favorite use for them is: Childproof lock!

MONEY SAVER: use your broccoli elastics as childproof locks!

Our bathroom cabinet handles
This idea works best for cabinets with knobs or handles with protruding ends the elastics can attach to.  My Husband and I LOVE this "lock" because it's cheap and easy.  The tautness of the elastic prevents little hands from being able to open the cupboard or remove the "lock".  But adults are strong enough to be able to pull the cupboard open slightly.  This is perfect for that cupboard that houses the garbage can.  You'll be able to pull the cupboard open slightly, throw out what garbage you need to, then let go and the cupboard snaps shut again.  An impenetrable fortress to your 2 year old.

Do you have any cheap and easy solutions you use in your home?
