MONEY SAVER: Homemade Hand Sanitizer

During this cold and flu season who isn't carrying around hand sanitizer?  I have never really liked the stuff.  Sure it kills germs, and that's a good thing, but my hands always felt dirtier after using sanitizer than they did before.  I also find the scents of sanitizers very overpowering.  So I embarked on a journey to create my own money saving hand sanitizer.  The journey wasn't long.  Two ingredients and done.  I love this simple recipe because it doesn't smell at all, it leaves my hands feeling clean and it actually moisturizes my dry winter skin.  Here is my recipe for my MONEY SAVER and TIME SAVER homemade hand sanitizer:

The How-To:

Combine
99% Pure Aloe Vera Gel to 70% Rubbing Alcohol
 in this ratio
 1 Tbsp: 1 tsp

 Easy peasy lemon bo breezy.
1. But where do you get the aloe vera gel?  Easy.  On the same shelf you find bandaids.  Most every store carrying bandages will also carry aloe vera gel.  Rubbing alcohol is found in the same location.  The cost for the aloe was less than $5 and the cost for the alcohol was less than $2.
2. But what is a ratio?  It simply means that for every tablespoon of aloe vera gel you use for your hand sanitizer  you must add one teaspoon of rubbing alcohol.  Simply mix them together in a bowl or mug.  It's amazing how the aloe vera gel just soaks up the rubbing alcohol.  I thought the mixture would be "watery" but it's very gel like.  Another way to say it would be: If you want to use 1 cup of aloe vera gel, add 1/3 cup of rubbing alcohol.
3. But how do I get the gel into the little bottles I like to carry in my purse?  This one is tricky.  The best solution I found is to fill a plastic baggy with your mixed gel.  Squeeze (or squish) it all to one side of the baggy then cut the opposite corner.  Place the cut corner inside your small bottle (critical that it be inside).  Then slowly squeeze the gel into your little bottle.  The gel squeezes very easily.

There you have it!
