MONEY SAVER: Homemade Cough Syrup

Not only is this a MONEY SAVER (since it does cost A LOT less than store brand) it is also a SANITY SAVER as it can be made in the middle of the night.  Why do all kids wake up sick?  And it can be given to all children over 1 year old.  Store brand cough syrup is only for ages 6 and up.

From what I gather via my internet searches the best ingredients for homemade cough syrup are as follows:  honey, lemon juice, oil (usually olive) and apple cider vinegar.
I found all ingredients at my local Loblaw store

Our Recipe
1 1/2 Tbsp buck wheat honey (is found to be more effective than any other honey)
2 tsp         grape seed oil (has very little flavour and helps coat a sore throat)
1/2 tsp       lemon juice (fresh or bottled)
1/2 Tbsp   apple cider vinegar

Mix together in a cup then microwave 10 seconds.  This helps to liquify the honey and make it a nice warm syrup for sore throats.  Give one teaspoon of syrup to children.  Remember that only children older than 1 year can have this syrup (as per Health Canada).  Adults can drink the whole recipe if desired.

Hope you enjoy this homemade cough syrup!
