Friday's Quick Tip: Plastic Dishes

This is a MONEY SAVER and SANITY SAVER!

Plastic dishes!

My 7 year old plastic plates
I bought these dishes (3 sets) when my Husband and I bought our first home and had invited a large group of family and friends to our house warming party.  We had just lived 2 years in a tiny one bedroom apartment so we knew we didn't own enough dishes to accomodate everyone.  We went to the $1 store thinking of getting paper plates but they were out.  All they had were styrofoam.  Being environmentally aware of how long it takes styrofoam to degrade we searched for an alternative.  The next shelf down had blue plastic plates.
I said, "We could wash them."
"Yep," said Hubby, "and use them over and over again."

They look almost brand new

We bought them. Deep down I thought these plates would only last for this party; maybe two.  And then they'll be nothing but plastic shreds that I'll have to throw out just like I would have with the styrofoam plates.

That was 7 YEARS ago!!

These plates get brought out every birthday, Mother's Day, BBQ and Christmas party.  We use them about once a month or so.  They only cost us $3.  And after having them a few years, and washing them by hand, my husband realized they were dish washer safe!

So they save money because we're not buying new paper/styrofoam plates every occasion they're needed.  They save my sanity because I know I'm not throwing even more in the garbage and they're always in the house.  Plates are one less thing for me to worry about when planning a party.

Go out and get your plastic plates for your next shin-dig today!!
You'll be glad you did!
